As many Kenyans are getting into the business and depending less on employment, it is important to have the right look when it comes to marketing yourself and your business. You do not want to look unprofessional in front of potential investors who could take your business a notch higher.
Here are few tips to make you look like a business professional:
Address people by their first names
How do you feel when someone forgets your name? Your customers would hate that too. However, this depends on the position of the person or their age. Kenyan culture dictates that you address older persons or persons of higher level with their surname and a title, for example, Mr. Mwangi.
Be polite
In business you will meet different people from the rude to the extremely polite to the nonchalant. Be polite to all of them even if it takes a lot of will power. Being nice never hurt anyone.
Dress the part
You will never make a first impression twice so make sure that you dress the part when it comes to business. Dressing the part does not mean choking yourself in a tie the whole day under the hot sun and it also does not mean wearing miniskirts and heavy make-up. Simply look presentable like you would in a job interview.
Know your business inside out
Have you ever passed by a hawker in the streets and asked them how the rat poison works and they went blank? If that is how you plan on selling your products then you are doomed. You should answer all questions that the customer asks concerning the products you are selling.
Remember only you can make your business successful.
