The Panama Papers is a data leak bigger than the 2010 US Diplomatic cables leak and the 2013 intelligence documents by Edward Snowden. The Panama Papers reveal how Monsack Fonseca, a Panama based Wealth Management firm, has helped billionaires stash billions of dollars in off shore tax havens that include Switzerland, Cyprus and the British Virgin Islands, and in the British crown dependencies Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man.
Among the notable people implicated negatively include;
- Russian Premier Vladimir Putin who is said to have a $2 billion offshore trail that leads directly to him,
- Juan Pedro Damiani, a Uruguayan lawyer and long-serving member of the ethics committee, and Eugenio Figueredo, a former senior Fifa vice-president recently accused of corruption, and,
- The Iceland Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson and his wife.
