Azimio Coalition’s Murang’a Town Hall Meeting Thwarted by Insufficient Notice

In a surprising turn of events, the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition party has been compelled to cancel their scheduled town hall meeting in Murang’a. The gathering, which was intended to take place on Thursday, April 20th, would have been the first for the coalition in the Mt. Kenya region. Usawa Party leader Mwangi Wa Iria had previously expressed his eagerness to welcome Raila Odinga to the county.

Murang’a police chief David Mathiu denied the coalition’s request to hold the meeting, citing insufficient notification that left the police with inadequate time to make the necessary preparations. Mathiu revealed that the police would be occupied with another prior engagement on the date Azimio had planned to host their meeting.

According to Citizen Digital, Mathiu clarified that notices for such gatherings should be submitted four days in advance. However, Azimio presented their notice on Tuesday, April 18th, a mere two days before the anticipated event. Usawa Party leader Mwangi Wa Iria, who submitted the notice, emphasized that the meeting’s purpose was to foster open dialogue between local leaders and the community.
