How to Apply for a Driving License Online

It is possible to apply for a driving license online in addition to other online driving license services from the comfort of your home, office or cyber cafe. Payment for these services is through mobile money, debit cards, credit cards or mobile banking. To apply for a driving license online, you will need an eCitizen account, your National ID, a valid email address, a working phone number and a recent passport photo.

Step 1

To create an eCitizen account, Log on to ecitizen.

  1. Click on Register Now
  2. Enter your ID Number and your first name 
  3. Enter your email address and confirm password 
  4. Click to Agree to Terms and Conditions 
  5. Open your email and continue with the activation 
  6. Verify your phone number 
  7. Enter verification code from SMS sent to your mobile number
  8. Upload o recent passport photo and continue with the process

Step 2

Click on National Transport and Safety Authority link and click on ”Submit application for driving license

Step 3

Click for service required

  1. Provisional Driving License
  2. Driving Test
  3. Interim Driving License
  4. One Year Driving License Renewal
  5. Three Year Driving License Renewal
  6. Driving Class Endorsement
  7. Duplicate Driving License
  8. Driving License Information Corrections
  9. Driving Class Endorsement (Classes A & J)


If the information on your Driver‘s License is erroneous or cannot be found, use the facility No.8 for Driving License information correction. If correct, click on “Submit”. Make sure you confirm the

details before clicking on “Submit.”

Step 4

Proceed to pay using the available payment options. Once payment has been confirmed, you have the option to print the permit (renewal slip), cut and stick it onto the Driving License booklet; otherwise, the renewal slip is available electronically in the eCitizen account.

To confirm your details, register by sending the word DL to 22430. To check validity Dial *512#. The following message will appear on your mobile  “Welcome to NTSA Mobile Service. Enter Driving License Ref Number OR ID Number”.


You will soon be able to replace your old generation driving license with a smart driving license fitted with an electronic chip.
