Love has found its way into the heart of Kenya’s National Assembly, as United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MPs Eric Wamumbi and Betty Maina became engaged on Monday, April 17th. In a tender surprise proposal, a group of UDA politicians looked on as Wamumbi presented Maina with a stunning engagement ring.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is now poised to lead the dowry negotiations between Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina and her fiancé, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi. Gachagua’s involvement in the matrimonial process highlights the significance of the couple’s union within the political landscape. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro will host the delegation at Maina’s Murang’a residence, where the negotiations will take place.
According to the Daily Nation, Wamumbi revealed that he and Maina already live together as they prepare to formalize their relationship. The Mathira lawmaker spoke of meeting Maina in 2021, and as they campaigned together in the run-up to the 2022 elections, he discovered that she was everything he had ever wanted in a spouse.
Their engagement marks a new chapter for the two United Democratic Alliance members, who have been romantically linked for several months. Maina shared images and videos of the sentimental moment on social media, expressing her gratitude to her sisters for organizing the delightful surprise and to Wamumbi for his heartfelt proposal. “One day at a time, sweet Jesus. He makes all things beautiful in his own time. Thanks, my sisters, for organizing this wonderful surprise. My dear Eric, you rock,” she said.
Among the notable attendees at the engagement were Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, Nominated Senator Veronica Maina, and Governor Susan Kihika. Rumors of the couple’s romance first surfaced on social media in December 2022, when Maina posted a loving message to Wamumbi, igniting widespread speculation.
