In a harrowing event in Kitengela, a 24-year-old mother was hospitalized on Monday after fatally attacking her two-year-old daughter in a horrific incident that was caught on video by neighbors.
Believed to be a result of mental illness, the young mother claimed she assaulted her daughter due to her own self-hatred and the immense suffering she had experienced with her child. “I hate myself. I suffer from low self-esteem. I have gone through a lot with my daughter,” she expressed.
During the brutal episode on Sunday night, terrified neighbors looked on as the woman, a senior Commerce student at a local university, stabbed and dismembered her young child. Initially, neighbors had rushed to the home after hearing screams, fearing a criminal attack on the residence. Instead, they discovered the mother, naked and aggressively assaulting her daughter.
At the time of the tragic incident, the young woman’s parents, who share the same home, were not present. When neighbors managed to break down the door and enter the house, the toddler had already succumbed to her injuries, and the mother subsequently collapsed. The home was in disarray, with most of the furniture and electronics destroyed.
Kitengela authorities have initiated an investigation into the appalling incident. Kitengela DCI Chief Benson Mutia stated that the mother would be arraigned following police questioning. “It’s a bizarre incident. We will be interrogating her to ascertain the motive of the killing. We also want to know if the murder was premeditated,” he remarked.
