BOGOTÁ — At the spry age of 19, Angel Alvarado has achieved what many might consider impossible. This Colombian prodigy has successfully broken the record for the fastest time to solve three rotating puzzle cubes whilst juggling, securing a phenomenal time of 4 minutes and 31.01 seconds.

Alvarado was no stranger to this record as he had already set the previous time of 4 minutes and 52.43 seconds in May 2021. This recent attempt, carried out in Bogotá, Colombia, on 1 April 2022, is a testament to Alvarado’s unyielding determination and pursuit of excellence.

Having spent two years training to achieve his first record, Alvarado utilized the lockdowns induced by the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to hone his skills. His initial challenge was learning to solve a single cube while juggling, a feat that took him five months to master. Once this skill was acquired, he introduced more cubes into the rotation, eventually managing to solve three cubes efficiently after another four months of rigorous practice.

Alvarado’s training regimen was nothing short of grueling. It involved one-hour solves for just one cube, as well as three-cube attempts with a focus on consistency and accuracy. His journey to the record was a display of immense dexterity and concentration, as he had to keep track of the location and rotation of each cube while they were airborne.

For Alvarado, this record-breaking feat was not just about personal glory. It was about proving to himself that with practice and a ton of determination, he could achieve something this difficult. His accomplishment also represents a historical moment for Colombia, marking the nation’s first juggling and speedcubing world record and entry into the Guiness Book of World records.

Interestingly, the record for the fastest time to solve three rotating puzzle cubes whilst juggling has a brief history. Que Jianyu of China first set it on 23 December 2017 when he was just 13 years old. Jianyu further improved his record on 17 November 2018. Yet, four years later, Alvarado has managed to cut down Jianyu’s original record time by over 30 seconds.

Angel Alvarado’s story serves as a potent reminder of what can be achieved when skill, determination, and a dash of audacity come together. As he continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible, the world is left to wonder: What will he accomplish next?.
