The Nairobi court has determined that there is enough evidence to charge Embakasi East MP Babu Owino for the alleged misuse of a firearm at a local nightclub. Owino is accused of disorderly conduct while carrying a gun, with the intention to shoot DJ Evolve on January 17, 2020, at the popular B-Club in Nairobi.
Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi ruled that the prosecution’s evidence warranted placing Babu Owino on the stand for defense. Ochoi expressed confidence in the strength of the case against the ODM MP and dismissed Owino’s claims that the prosecution had failed to prove the allegations.
The prosecution alleges that the second-term lawmaker violated Sections 33 and 31(1) of the Firearms Act. If found guilty, Owino could face a one-year jail sentence or a fine of KSh 10,000. The trial is set to commence on June 15, while the lawmaker remains out of custody on bail.
