Useful Websites for Small-Business Advice in Kenya
Fact-checked on
Small-business advice is most useful when it matches the decision you need to make. Start with Kenyan authorities for registration and tax questions, and treat general overseas resources as planning tools.
Five Starting Points
- Business Registration Service (BRS). Use its official service information and fee schedule when researching business registration. Follow its link to the official application platform.
- Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA). Check the authority’s website for its enterprise-support information and services. Confirm eligibility for any programme rather than assuming every business qualifies.
- Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). Use the current guidance for the tax that applies to your activity. Old blog posts and even older official pages can contain superseded details, so check dates and relevant notices.
- US Small Business Administration. Its planning resources explain market research, business plans and startup costs. Use the planning approach without importing US legal or tax rules into Kenya.
- Shopify Help Centre. Useful for understanding that platform’s online-store functions. Its instructions are platform-specific and do not replace Kenyan compliance requirements.
Use Advice Carefully
Write down the question you need answered, open the original guidance and keep a note of the date checked. Where the answer affects a contract, tax return or regulated activity, obtain suitable professional assistance.
Warning: A page offering advice is not proof of government approval, funding eligibility or a guaranteed business result.
