How to Get Your Credit Report in Kenya
Fact-checked on
You are entitled to a free copy of your credit report from a credit reference bureau at least once a year. Kenya’s credit information framework is governed by the 2020 CRB Regulations; the old 2013 regulation quoted in this article has been replaced.
How to get the report
- Check the Central Bank of Kenya’s current list of licensed credit reference bureaus.
- Open the chosen bureau’s official website and find its consumer report request process.
- Complete identity verification through that channel and request your annual free report.
- Review the credit facilities, repayment information and personal details shown.
- If an entry is inaccurate, raise a dispute with the bureau and the institution that supplied the information. Keep evidence and your complaint reference.
The CBK supervision page explains the annual free-report entitlement. Metropol also publishes customer rights and its report-request channels. Check the other licensed bureaus if you need to establish what information each holds.
Reports, scores and certificates
A credit report, a score and a clearance certificate are different products. Do not assume that obtaining one automatically supplies the others or guarantees loan approval.
Ask the bureau how to obtain the statutory free report if a particular channel offers a paid product. Mobile-network or optional-service charges should not be confused with the entitlement to a free report.
Warning: Do not pay anyone promising to erase accurate credit history. Use the official dispute process for information you believe is wrong.
