HELB Loan Repayment Methods in Kenya

HELB now directs loan repayments through the eCitizen payment gateway. Use HELB’s official USSD service, mobile app or portal to generate the payment instructions for your account.
Before you pay
Have access to your HELB account and the phone you will use for payment. Check your loan balance and decide whether you are paying the full balance or a specific amount.
Repaying by USSD and M-PESA
- Dial *642# and log in.
- Select Loan Repayment, then Repay loan. Follow the menu labels if their numbers change.
- Choose M-PESA as the payment option.
- Select full repayment or enter the amount you want to pay.
- Confirm the details. HELB’s published guide says you will receive an eCitizen notification containing an invoice number, amount and Paybill.
- Complete the official payment request using your M-PESA PIN.
- Retain both M-PESA and eCitizen confirmations and check that the repayment appears on your HELB account.
Portal, app and employer repayments
You can also begin through the HELB portal or official app. Follow the repayment options shown for your account. Employers should use HELB’s employer repayment/checkoff instructions so payments can be allocated to the correct borrowers.
Warning: Do not use the old bank-account table previously published here. Several listed bank names and repayment arrangements have changed. Generate a fresh invoice through HELB and use its exact payment reference.
