Five High-Fee Schools in Kenya: Published Fees and Comparison Tips
Fact-checked on
In this article
International School of Kenya, St Andrew’s Turi, Peponi, Brookhouse and Greensteds are five fee-charging international-school options whose published charges need careful comparison. This is not a verified ranking of Kenya’s five most expensive schools: fees vary by age, currency, boarding arrangement and what is included.
The former article mixed termly and annual figures. The examples below retain each source’s period and currency instead of presenting an artificial league table.
Published fee examples
| School | Pupil or programme used for the example | Published charge | Period and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| International School of Kenya | Grades 11–12 | USD 37,330 tuition | Per academic year, 2026–2027; other charges apply. |
| St Andrew’s Turi | Years 12–13, day | KSh 883,000 | Basic fees per term, 2026–2027 Kenyan-resident schedule. |
| St Andrew’s Turi | Years 12–13, full boarding | KSh 1,358,000 | Basic fees per term, same schedule. |
| Peponi Senior School | Years 9–13, day | KSh 976,370 | Per term, effective September 2026; three terms per year. |
| Peponi Senior School | Years 9–13, full boarding | KSh 1,453,870 | Per term, effective September 2026; three terms per year. |
| Brookhouse | Current applicant | Request a current written quotation | Its public fee page still carries 2025/2026 payment dates; those figures are not certified here as 2026/2027 fees. |
| Greensteds | Current applicant | Request a current written quotation | The dated schedule located is for 2025/2026, not a verified 2026/2027 quotation. |
These are selected examples, not each school’s minimum fee and not total first-year costs.
1. International School of Kenya
ISK’s 2026–2027 schedule gives annual tuition of USD 18,870 for pre-kindergarten, USD 30,800 for kindergarten, USD 32,540 for Grades 1–5, USD 33,965 for Grades 6–8 and USD 35,900 for Grades 9–10, alongside the Grades 11–12 figure above.
New applicants pay a USD 400 application fee. The one-time capital levy for new entrants in Grades 1–12 is USD 11,000. Continuing students have a USD 1,600 annual capital levy. These charges have different eligibility conditions; do not add every levy to every child’s bill.
Keep the quotation in US dollars unless the school provides the applicable Kenya-shilling payment arrangement. A conversion made today is not a fixed school fee.
2. St Andrew’s Turi
Use the 2026–2027 schedule for the correct residence category and year group. The cited Kenyan-resident schedule separates day, weekly and full boarding.
It requires an admission deposit of 50% of one term’s full basic fees, subject to its refund and notice conditions. Years 11 and 13 pay the total year’s fees in two equal instalments. The number of instalments does not change a fee labelled “per term” into an annual total.
3. Peponi Senior School
The September 2026 schedule covers Years 9–13 and distinguishes day, weekly boarding and full boarding. Weekly boarding is KSh 1,373,495 per term.
It separately lists registration of KSh 7,500, acceptance of KSh 15,000 and refundable caution deposits of KSh 500,000 for Kenyan residents or KSh 700,000 for non-Kenyan residents. Read the deposit conditions and ask for the complete first-year quotation.
Peponi House is a different stage of schooling with its own charges; do not use its fees as the senior-school fee.
4. Brookhouse
The official page distinguishes Karen and Runda tuition from boarding-and-tuition at Karen. It also mixes term and semester labels for different year groups and contains old payment dates.
For a current admission, obtain the exact campus, year group, academic year, billing period and extras in writing. Repeating a public figure without resolving its year would make a misleading comparison.
5. Greensteds
Greensteds publishes separate day, weekly boarding and full-boarding arrangements. The dated fee document found during this check covers 2025–2026. Use the official fees page to obtain the applicable current-year quotation rather than treating that older document as proof of today’s charge.
What to compare before deciding
- The same age or year group and the same academic year.
- Day versus weekly or full boarding.
- Tuition alone versus tuition plus boarding and meals.
- Application fees, capital levies, deposits, transport, examinations and optional activities.
- Currency and the school’s exchange or payment policy.
- Refund, notice and late-payment conditions.
Tip: Ask each school for a written full-year and first-year total for your child’s circumstances. A high fee alone does not establish educational quality or suitability.
