TikTok can help a Kenyan business demonstrate products, answer questions and attract enquiries. Start with a clear business goal and a way to measure it. Views are useful only if they help you reach the right people and move them towards a worthwhile action.

TikTok’s official list includes Kenya among countries where businesses can create self-serve advertising accounts through Business Center. Account creation does not mean that every advertising, shopping or targeting feature is available to every account.

What to prepare

Have a clear offer, accurate business contact details and a destination for interested customers: a website, a genuine business messaging channel or a physical location. Decide who will create content, answer enquiries and approve spending.

Use a Business Account if its tools suit your needs. Check the current in-app account settings and TikTok’s account guidance; a Business Account, a Business Center and an Ads Manager account serve different purposes.

Build a simple marketing plan

  1. Choose one outcome. Examples include qualified enquiries, website purchases or visits to a shop. Define what counts as a useful enquiry before tracking results.
  2. Make the profile clear. Explain what you sell, where you serve customers and how they can contact you. Use consistent branding and only publish contact details you intend customers to use.
  3. Create helpful videos. Show a product being used, explain a common mistake, answer a customer question or demonstrate your process. Get permission before featuring identifiable customers or their messages.
  4. Explain the offer honestly. Make prices, availability, delivery conditions and limitations clear. Avoid testimonials or performance claims you cannot support.
  5. Review results regularly. Compare watch time and engagement with clicks, enquiries, completed orders and the time spent serving those customers. Repeat topics that produce useful outcomes.

Music and commercial disclosure

TikTok says businesses should use its Commercial Music Library for commercial activity rather than assuming the general music library is cleared for business use. Other music or original sounds may require separate rights. Check the permission for your intended use, including advertising.

Turn on the appropriate content disclosure setting when promoting a brand, product or service, including your own business. A paid creator partnership also needs the relevant disclosure; adding a vague hashtag is not a substitute for the platform’s setting.

Starting paid advertising

Create the account using your real business country and details. In Ads Manager, check which objectives, audiences, placements and payment options are actually offered to that account. Align the advert, landing page and customer offer before launch.

Begin with an amount the business can afford to spend on learning. Measure cost per qualified enquiry or sale and compare it with the margin the resulting customers generate. Avoid increasing a budget solely because a video has many views.

Tip: Reply to useful questions and turn recurring ones into new videos. A small set of clear demonstrations can be more valuable than an ambitious posting schedule you cannot maintain.
