US holidays can affect international payments involving American banks. The table follows the Federal Reserve Bank holiday calendar, not a guarantee that every commercial-bank branch is closed.

Holiday dates

Holiday 2026 2027
New Year’s Day 1 January 1 January
Martin Luther King Jr. Day 19 January 18 January
Washington’s Birthday 16 February 15 February
Memorial Day 25 May 31 May
Juneteenth 19 June 19 June (Saturday)
Independence Day 4 July (Saturday) 4 July (Sunday; Monday closure 5 July)
Labor Day 7 September 6 September
Columbus Day 12 October 11 October
Veterans Day 11 November 11 November
Thanksgiving Day 26 November 25 November
Christmas Day 25 December 25 December (Saturday)

The weekend rule matters

When a listed holiday falls on a Saturday, Federal Reserve Banks and branches are open on the preceding Friday. When it falls on a Sunday, they are closed on the following Monday.

For example, Independence Day 2026 falls on Saturday 4 July; Friday 3 July is not a Federal Reserve Bank holiday under this rule. In 2027, the Sunday 4 July holiday produces a Monday 5 July closure.

Federal-government employee observance can differ, which is why applying the usual “preceding Friday” rule to all banking is misleading. Inauguration Day is not one of the eleven holidays in the Federal Reserve Bank table.

Planning a transfer from Kenya

Ask the sending and receiving banks about cut-off times, value dates and the relevant payment service. Kenyan holidays and intermediary-bank calendars may also matter. An online transfer request can be accepted while settlement follows a different timetable.

Tip: Check the specific bank and payment service rather than assuming a branch opening, app availability or card payment establishes when a wire will settle.
