7 Tips to Choose a Good-Quality Water Tank
Fact-checked on
A water tank needs to suit both the water stored and the place where it will be installed. Compare the tank’s documented specifications rather than judging quality by colour or price alone.
Seven Checks
- Intended use. For drinking water, ask for evidence that materials in contact with it are suitable for that purpose.
- Capacity. Estimate your needs and available space before choosing a size.
- Condition. Inspect for cracks, leaks, damage and poor connections.
- Cover. Look for a well-fitting cover and inspection lid that can keep contaminants out.
- Fittings. Ask how vents and overflows are protected against pests and how drainage is arranged.
- Installation. Have a competent installer confirm the support, position and connections required for that model.
- Maintenance. Choose a design that can be inspected and maintained safely. Ask about replacement parts and obtain warranty terms in writing.
Tip: Keep the product specifications, receipt and maintenance instructions.
Warning: A new tank does not automatically make unsafe source water safe to drink. Water quality, treatment and hygienic storage all matter.
