For a Kenya Power postpaid bill, use M-PESA Paybill 888888 and your postpaid account number. Buying prepaid electricity tokens uses a different paybill and reference.

What you need

Have your latest postpaid bill or a confirmed account number, the amount you want to pay and sufficient M-PESA funds, including any applicable transaction charge.

Payment steps

  1. Open M-PESA and choose Lipa na M-PESA → Pay Bill.
  2. Enter business number 888888.
  3. Enter your Kenya Power postpaid account number as shown on the current bill.
  4. Enter the amount.
  5. Review the payee, account and amount before authorising with your M-PESA PIN.
  6. Keep the M-PESA confirmation and check the Kenya Power account through its official self-service channels.

Do not automatically remove a suffix from an account number based on an old migration notice. If the number is unclear, confirm it with Kenya Power before paying.

If you meant to buy tokens

For a prepaid meter, Kenya Power publishes Paybill 888880, using the meter number as the account reference. Do not use the postpaid bill instructions above for a token purchase.

If payment does not reflect

Check the transaction reference, paybill, account and amount. Contact Kenya Power through the customer-support page with the payment record. If the reference was wrong, seek official assistance before repeating the payment.

Tip: You can use `*977#`, MyPower or the official self-service website for the relevant account services. A successful M-PESA debit alone is not a reason to assume an incorrect account reference will be corrected automatically.
