How to Check the Status of Your Kenyan ID Application
Fact-checked on
In this article
Keep your waiting card or acknowledgement when applying for a Kenyan ID. Its reference helps the National Registration Bureau (NRB) identify your application and advise whether the card is ready.
What you need
- Your waiting card or application acknowledgement.
- Your application reference and ID number, if available.
- The name of the registration station where you applied.
How to follow up
- Check any application record or notification provided through your official NRB eCitizen account.
- If you cannot obtain a clear update, take the waiting card to the registration office or Huduma centre where you applied.
- Ask the registration desk to check the application reference and confirm the collection point.
- If the record needs correction or further verification, follow the instructions given by the registration officer.
- Keep the acknowledgement until collection and present the documents requested by the issuing office.
The NRB service portal lists identity services, while Huduma Kenya identifies centres providing NRB assistance. Neither a payment receipt nor a general production announcement confirms that your particular card is ready.
Tip: Keep a private photo or copy of your waiting card so you have the reference if the paper is misplaced.
