Cybercafes in Kenya: Services, Charges and Online Safety

A cybercafe can help when you need a computer, reliable internet, printing or scanned documents. In Kenya, that can include assistance with eCitizen applications, KRA services and education applications. The operator provides access or practical help; the government agency or institution still decides the application.
This guide explains how to choose and use a cybercafe rather than listing businesses whose services and opening hours may change.
Common services
| Service | What to check before starting |
|---|---|
| Internet and computer use | Price per session, minimum charge and available software |
| Printing and photocopying | Price per page, colour or black-and-white, and paper size |
| Scanning and document uploads | File format, size limit and whether all pages are legible |
| Online application assistance | The correct official portal, documents needed and operator’s service fee |
| Typing and CV formatting | Price, delivery time and an editable copy of the finished document |
Huduma Kenya also describes cybercafe facilities at its centres for services such as printing, scanning and uploading. Confirm availability at the centre you intend to visit.
What to bring
Bring the documents required by the official application, access to your own phone and email, and a way to pay. Read the agency’s instructions before travelling. A scan that is too large, unclear or missing a page can delay an otherwise complete application.
Use your own account and contact details. An application registered under an operator’s email or phone can be difficult to recover later.
How to use a cybercafe safely
- Agree on the price first. Separate the official application fee from the cybercafe’s charge for assistance, printing or internet use.
- Check the website address. Start from the relevant agency’s official website rather than an advert or a link sent by an unknown person.
- Control your login. Enter passwords yourself and decline the browser’s offer to save them. Receive verification codes on your own phone. Never disclose an M-PESA PIN.
- Review before submission. Check names, identification details, course choices, attachments and payment amounts yourself.
- Keep evidence. Save the application reference, official receipt and a copy of the submitted document somewhere you control.
- Finish carefully. Sign out of every account, remove your files from Downloads and the desktop, and collect all printed or scanned originals. Deletion on a shared computer is not a guarantee that every copy has disappeared.
Prefer a trusted personal device for banking and other highly sensitive transactions. If you suspect that a password was saved or observed, change it from a trusted device.
Why might an operator ask for identification?
In its August 2026 clarification of new cybercafe licence conditions, the Communications Authority said operators must verify customers and maintain basic session records, but are not required to keep browsing history. The clarification does not guarantee that an individual computer stores no browser data. Ask why personal information is being collected and how it will be protected.
Tip: Do not pay for a promise of guaranteed approval, a job or a university placement. Assistance with a form cannot guarantee the outcome.
