Movie Downloads and Offline Viewing: Legitimate Options
Fact-checked on
For offline viewing, use a service’s own download feature or a download authorised by the film’s rights holder. A download button on an unrelated upload does not establish permission.
Services and download options
| Service | Download or offline option | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Netflix Kenya | Eligible titles in a supported Netflix app | Plan, device and title restrictions; not every film is downloadable |
| Prime Video | Eligible titles in a supported Prime Video app | Kenya availability, subscription and title-specific download conditions |
| YouTube | Official offline feature for eligible videos; Premium also offers offline playback | Download availability and an authorised uploader; Kenya is listed for selected mobile offline viewing |
| Vimeo | Download where the video owner enables it | Use the owner’s supplied download control; not every film offers one |
| Internet Archive moving images | Files offered on individual archive item pages | Check the item’s rights information; the Archive does not establish that every uploaded film is cleared for your use |
Before downloading
- Check the title’s availability for your location and device through the official service.
- Use its own download control. Subscription downloads usually stay within the service’s app rather than becoming unrestricted files to copy to a USB stick.
- Check expiry and reconnection requirements before travelling.
- For a creator-supplied file or archive item, read the permission or licence. Permission to watch does not automatically include permission to redistribute or sell copies.
Tip: Test playback in the app before a journey. Do not assume a streaming title is also available offline.
