How to Find the URL of an Image
Fact-checked on
In this article
Need to share a picture, embed it on a website or use it in a reverse image search? You need the image’s URL (its web address). Getting it is as easy as ABC.
On a computer (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari)
- Open the page with the image. If it is a small preview (a thumbnail), click it first to open the full-size version.
- Right-click the image. On a Mac without a mouse, tap with two fingers.
- Choose Copy image address (Chrome, Edge and Safari) or Copy Image Link (Firefox).
- Paste the URL wherever you need it with Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on a Mac).
On an Android phone or iPhone
- Open the image in your browser.
- Press and hold on the image until a menu appears.
- Tap the option to copy the image address or link (the wording differs slightly between browsers).
- Paste it where you need it.
Tips
- A proper image URL usually ends in a file type such as .jpg, .png, .gif or .webp.
- In Google Images, click the picture to open it, then copy the address of the large preview, not the small thumbnail. Otherwise you may get a long Google link instead of the real image address.
- Some sites block right-clicking or show images in a way that hides the URL.
Having an image’s URL does not mean you may reuse the image. Most photos online are protected by copyright, so ask permission or use free-to-use images.
