Below are five Nairobi law firms with contact details and practice information confirmed from their own websites. This is a selected directory, not a comprehensive list, an endorsement or a ranking of legal ability.
Check the individual advocate who will handle your matter in the Law Society of Kenya’s official register. A firm’s website and an advocate’s current practising status are different checks.

Dentons and Hamilton Harrison & Mathews are not counted as two separate Nairobi firms in this list. The former article duplicated the affiliation and included old numbers, incomplete contacts and entries that could not be verified.
How to check an advocate through LSK
- Open LSK’s official Search Advocate portal.
- Search using the person’s full name or membership details. Advanced search also provides practice-area and location filters.
- Match the person, practice details and the displayed practising status. Do not rely only on a similar name or a social-media profile.
- Check the status for the relevant practising year. The portal states that the practising year runs from 1 January to 31 December.
- Ask LSK to clarify a missing, unclear or conflicting result before relying on an unverified claim of qualification.
The public portal checks individual advocates, not the merits of your case or a firm’s claimed expertise. This article does not claim that every named firm’s staff were individually verified as active on the check date.
What to ask before instructing a firm
- Who will handle the matter and what relevant experience do they have?
- Is there a conflict of interest that prevents the firm acting?
- What is the scope of work, fee basis, VAT treatment and likely disbursements?
- Who may authorise additional work or expenditure?
- What information and deadlines are needed from you?
Obtain a written engagement agreement and verified payment instructions. Do not send detailed confidential material to an unverified email address simply because it appears in an old directory.
Warning: A number in a directory is not sufficient verification for transferring client funds. Independently confirm the firm, the advocate’s identity and the account details before paying.
