Uwezo Fund’s constituency-based enterprise loans support eligible groups of youth, women and persons with disabilities. This guide covers the group business-loan route; check separately for any specialised product with different conditions.

Who qualifies?

The Fund’s online application portal gives these membership rules:

Group category Minimum membership from the category Leadership
Youth 70% aged 18–35 100% youth
Women 70% women aged 18 or over 100% women
Persons with disabilities 70% persons with disabilities 100% persons with disabilities

The group needs a valid registration certificate from the appropriate government body and a bank account in its own name. The portal lists registration through Social Services, Cooperatives or the Registrar of Societies, and 10–15 members. Confirm the membership requirement for your registration category and intended product with the constituency office before applying.

The portal also requires a table-banking or other group-fund structure with monthly contributions under the group’s rules. Keep contribution records. Institutions with listed eligible groups are addressed separately by the Fund; this is not blanket eligibility for any organisation.

How to apply

  1. Check the current loan product and application form on Uwezo Fund’s official website or loan portal.
  2. Prepare the registration, membership, leadership, bank and contribution records requested by the form.
  3. Complete the application and follow the official submission route. The published product guidance provides for submission to the relevant constituency office; an online application portal is also available.
  4. Await appraisal and the decision of the Constituency Uwezo Fund Management Committee. Eligibility alone does not guarantee funding.
  5. Before accepting a loan, read the repayment schedule and undertaking. Uwezo funding is a loan, not an automatic grant.

The Fund distinguishes Wezesha for first-time borrowers and Endeleza for repeat borrowers. Endeleza requires completed repayment and evidence of proper use of the earlier Wezesha loan, among other conditions.

Tip: Use the current official form for its supporting-document and submission requirements. Do not rely on the old article’s named signatories or assume every Uwezo product has identical rules.
