Registered to vote, but not sure your details are right? Or wondering which polling station you were assigned? Checking takes less than a minute, and it is better to find a problem now than on election morning.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) lets you check your voter details online or by SMS.
What You Need
- The ID card or passport number you used to register
- Your year of birth (for the online portal)
Check Your Voter Details Online
- Go to the IEBC voter verification portal: verify.iebc.or.ke.
- Enter your national ID or passport number and your year of birth.
- Submit. The portal shows your name, county, constituency, ward, polling centre and polling station (stream).
- You can download the details as a PDF to keep.
Check Your Voter Details by SMS
- Open your messages app.
- Type your ID or passport number (whichever you registered with).
- Send it to 70000.
- Wait for a reply with your registration details.
A small SMS charge may apply. During some verification periods the IEBC has asked voters to add their year of birth to the SMS, so follow the format in the latest IEBC notice if the plain ID number does not work.
Not Registered or Details Wrong?
- If you are not found, or your details are wrong, visit your IEBC constituency office with your ID or passport.
- You can register as a new voter or transfer your registration at any IEBC constituency office and at selected Huduma Centres under the IEBC’s continuous voter registration.
- The IEBC has reported that people who registered before 2012 may need to register afresh to be on the current biometric register. Check your details now to be sure.
