How to Divert an Airtel Line to Voicemail
Fact-checked on
If you don’t want to miss calls when your phone is off, out of range or you simply can’t pick up, you can divert (forward) your Airtel line to another number or to voicemail. Call forwarding is set from your phone’s own call settings, so the exact wording differs slightly from phone to phone.
How to Set Up Call Forwarding
- Open your phone’s Settings or the Phone/Dialler app.
- Find Call settings (on many Android phones this is under the three-dot menu in the Phone app).
- Tap Call forwarding (or “Call divert”).
- Choose when to forward: Always forward, or only when the line is busy, unanswered or unreachable.
- Enter the number you want calls sent to, then tap Enable and wait for the network to confirm.
You can also use the standard GSM short codes from the dial pad: dial *21*number# to always forward to a number, and #21# to switch forwarding off.
To forward to voicemail, you need Airtel’s current voicemail (call-answering) number. This can change, and not every line has the service switched on, so confirm the correct number first by calling Airtel customer care on 100 from your Airtel line, or ask in an Airtel shop. We have deliberately not printed an old number here so you don’t forward calls to the wrong place.
