Prepaid Visa Card You Can Load With M-PESA: I&M Safari Card

I&M Bank currently offers the Visa Safari prepaid card, which can be loaded through M-PESA. It is a physical prepaid card for purchases and cash withdrawals, subject to the bank’s terms. An I&M bank account is not required.
The older M-PESA PrePay Visa branding in the image below should not be treated as the name of the current Safari product. This guide uses the bank’s current Safari card instructions; it does not establish that the two products are the same.
What you need
I&M lists an application form, original and copy of your ID or passport, a copy of your KRA PIN and a recent passport photograph. The bank also asks about the intended use and frequency of card use.
How to apply and load the card
- Contact an I&M branch through the bank’s official website and request the Visa Safari prepaid card. Confirm eligibility, issuance charges and collection arrangements.
- Complete the bank’s application and identification checks.
- Once you have an active card, open M-PESA and choose Lipa na M-PESA → Pay Bill.
- Enter business number 872651 and use the 16-digit card number as the account number.
- Enter the amount, check the payment details and authorise with your M-PESA PIN.
- Keep the confirmation and check the card balance before spending.
Tip: Confirm the instructions on I&M’s current card page before loading. Ask the bank about transaction limits, exchange rates and withdrawal charges for your intended use.
