Kenyan passport applications begin online through eCitizen. After completing the application and paying, you must follow the Directorate of Immigration Services’ instructions for submitting documents and enrolling biometrics.

Requirements

Prepare your birth certificate and, for adults, Kenyan national ID, with copies. Depending on the case, you may also need citizenship or adoption evidence, parents’ documents, consent for a minor, an old passport or evidence supporting a change of particulars.

Use the checklist generated for your application. Immigration’s current FAQ says a recommender’s ID copy is no longer required; older checklists may still mention it.

Application steps

  1. Open the Immigration eCitizen portal and select the passport service.
  2. Choose the correct application type and complete the form accurately.
  3. Attach the documents requested, check names and dates, and pay the generated invoice.
  4. Download and print the application documents and receipts requested by the portal.
  5. Book an appointment and select an available passport processing centre.
  6. Attend in person with the required originals and copies for verification and biometric capture.
  7. Check progress through your eCitizen account and follow the collection instructions.

Applicants abroad should consult their nearest Kenyan mission about submission arrangements.

Fees and timing

Use the fee for the passport type shown in the current application. Do not rely on older fee tables or a guaranteed completion date. Allow time for verification before committing to travel.

Tip: Keep your invoice and appointment details. Immigration’s collection FAQ lists the invoice with its token and original ID among the collection documents.
