You can create a Nairobi Expressway customer account online, but registration alone does not activate an electronic toll device. Choose the payment option you need, then complete any card collection or device installation required by Moja Expressway Company.

Choose your payment option

  • ETC: electronic toll collection using an installed on-board unit (OBU). The device must be registered and activated for the vehicle.
  • MTC card: a manual toll collection card obtained through the operator’s service centres.
  • Cash or mobile money: the operator also describes payment at the toll station using an entry voucher. An online account is therefore not the only way to use the road.

Follow signs and staff instructions for the payment method you have ready.

What to prepare

Have your phone number, identification document and vehicle logbook available. The operator’s privacy policy describes collection of identification and vehicle-registration details. A company application may also need incorporation documents, a KRA PIN, the authorised contact’s identification and an authorisation letter.

Check the operator’s current instructions for your account type before visiting a service centre.

How to register

  1. Visit the official Nairobi Expressway website and follow its customer-portal link to customer.nairobiexpressway.ke.
  2. Choose registration and enter your own details. Complete the verification requested and create secure login credentials.
  3. If you already registered at a service centre, use the matching phone number and identification or PIN details when linking or accessing the account. The operator’s FAQ explains that website and app credentials are shared.
  4. Select the relevant vehicle and account services, and provide the documents requested. Review entries before submitting.
  5. For ETC, arrange OBU installation at a designated service point and confirm that it is active. For an MTC card, follow the operator’s application and collection procedure.
  6. Check the account balance and top-up instructions before travelling. Keep transaction references and confirm that a payment has appeared in the account.

The operator also provides registration and top-up services through *819# and an official app linked from its website. Use the operator’s current prompts rather than payment details copied from an old social-media post.

Before your first trip

Check the current toll for your entry and exit points and vehicle class. Installation charges, minimum balances and promotions can change; confirm the terms when applying. Do not enter an ETC lane solely because you have created a web account.

Tip: If a top-up has not reflected, check your statement and contact the operator through its official site with the payment reference before making another payment.
