How to Buy KPLC Tokens Using Your Mobile Phone

Lights went off and the meter is beeping at you? Good news: you don’t need to look for a vendor. You can buy Kenya Power (KPLC) prepaid tokens straight from your phone in under a minute. All you need is your prepaid meter number and money in your mobile wallet.
What You Need
- Your prepaid meter number (printed on the meter and on past token messages).
- Enough money in your M-PESA or Airtel Money wallet.
How to Buy KPLC Tokens via M-PESA
- Open the M-PESA menu on your Safaricom line (SIM toolkit or the M-PESA app).
- Select Lipa na M-PESA, then Pay Bill.
- Enter the Kenya Power prepaid business number 888880.
- For the account number, enter your meter number.
- Enter the amount you want to buy.
- Enter your M-PESA PIN and confirm the details before you send.
- You will get an M-PESA confirmation, followed by an SMS from Kenya Power with your token number and the units bought.
- Key the token number into your meter.

Buying Tokens via Airtel Money
Airtel Money also lets you buy KPLC prepaid tokens from the Pay Bill section of the Airtel Money menu. Use your meter number as the reference/account number and follow the prompts. Keep the transaction ID from your confirmation SMS in case you need help later.
Tips and Warnings
- Double-check your meter number before you send. Tokens bought for the wrong meter will not load on yours.
- Only buy tokens through official channels like the paybill above. Kenya Power has warned customers against buying tokens from unofficial third-party sellers.
- If you paid but did not get a token, call the Kenya Power contact centre on 97771 and have your M-PESA confirmation code, amount and meter number ready.
